From Rock Hard Rod to Dick Hammerbush, John Cena has had some interesting names for various reasons.
John Cena stars in the new film "Ricky Stanicky", which is about a character that is made up by a group of friends. Cena later brings him to life. In some ways, the character is like an alias or an alter ego.
Speaking with MTV's Josh Horowitz, John Cena, alongside Zac Efron, was asked whether he has ever used an alias for anonymity when checking into a hotel.
“For years, ironically, I was using Dick Hammerbush. Then I went through a John Smash Mouth phase. That was very short-lived as well. Like I said, it was completely irony. Then, you know, John Cena, you gotta go with it," Cena said.
Cena then noted that he became someone's Dick Hammerbush, as he went to a hotel where professional athletes were staying, and they thought someone used his name as an alias.
“After we filmed this, I did a film in Atlanta and stayed in a hotel under the name John Cena. It just happened to be a hotel where a lot of pro teams travel to. They thought it was a fake because they thought an athlete used the name ‘John Cena’ as their alias. So it was like a double web of deception, where I’m now someone’s Dick Hammerbush," Cena said.
Horowitz then noted that the characters Cena has played are straight-laced, and they need something extra. Cena responded by stating that Ricky Stanicky is a sticky name, and he also likes Rock Hard Rod, so that could potentially be the next Dick Hammerbush someday.
“Ricky Stanicky is such a sticky, sticky name. I do like, I also like Rock Hard Rod. That, again, could be a new edition of Dick Hammerbush, but again, I’m not gonna let it die. Pete Peacemaker is near and dear to my heart. I think there’s more layers to me in just that name than people are aware of. But Rock Hard Rod, that’s a pretty good one," Cena said.
