Josh Alexander Wants To Have A Year-Long Reign As The IMPACT World Champion

Josh Alexander has already made history in IMPACT Wrestling, and he has his sights set on more milestones.

Alexander defeated Moose at IMPACT Rebellion 2022 to win the IMPACT World Championship. He has held the title ever since, and he recently broke the record for the longest world title reign in IMPACT history. On the other end of the spectrum, he also holds the record for the shortest reign; the night he defeated Christian Cage to win the gold at Bound For Glory 2021, Moose immediately dethroned him.

In an interview with Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone, Alexander was asked to share his thoughts on holding the record for both the longest and shortest world title reign in IMPACT history. He describe how beating Moose and holding onto the title was his redemption story of sorts, as now he's on the right side of history.

"I mean, I feel much better about it now that I have the longest-reigning title reign under my belt as well [laughs]. But if we left it at the shortest, it’s definitely not the best reason to be in the history books, but it definitely makes it that much sweeter now, being the longest-reigning, knowing that I’ve kind of had the redemption story from that short reign," Alexander said.

Moving forward, Alexander has his sights set on another major record. He noted that he can reach 305 days, he'll pass Jeff Jarrett for the longest title reign in the history of the company, dating back to its NWA-TNA days. He also emphasized hat he wants to have a year-long title run, but it's ultimately out of his hands.

“My wrestling student actually messaged me today and he said, ‘If you go to 305, you’ll eclipse any champion ever in the history of NWA TNA or IMPACT. Jeff Jarrett’s reign is 305 days long as the NWA Heavyweight Champion, so I guess that’s the next number to chase. For me, man, if I can get a year into this and have a year-long title reign in pro wrestling, which is so rare, that’s something that’s a goal to set. But all these things are kinda out of my hands," Alexander said.

As for possibly chasing Kurt Angle’s record of 608 days combined days as champion, Alexander stated that the number seems insurmountable right now, but he embraces the challenge. He made it clear that he'd be happy to go down in history like Angle, one of the most legendary champions on IMPACT history.

“It seems insurmountable right now, being at 257 and looking at that big 608 number. But yeah, I’ll embrace all of it. I’ll take all of the challenges if I can go down in the history books eclipsing sometime like my hero Kurt Angle, I’ll face it head-on," Alexander said.

Alexander will defend the title against Bully Ray in a Full Metal Mayhem Match at IMPACT Hard To Kill. Click here to see what Alexander had to say about the bout.

In a recent interview, Alexander stated that he and Ethan Page have not communicated much since Page left IMPACT. Check out his comments here.
