Kalisto Reveals Advice He's Received From Rey Mysterio

Kalisto on how Rey Mysterio inspires him.

When Rey Mysterio left WWE in 2015, it was Kalisto who took over the reigns as the top Lucha star in WWE. He made his main roster debut one month after Mysterio's release in February 2015 and won the United States Title less than a year later. In October 2017, Kalisto captured the Cruiserweight Title from Enzo Amore. While WWE has never recaptured the magic they had with Mysterio, Kalisto seemed to be on that path before the cruiserweights were regulated to their own show and Kalisto became lost in the shuffle. Mysterio officially returned to WWE last month at SmackDown 1000, signing a new two-year deal with the company.

Appearing on the Steve Austin Show, Kalisto discussed the advice he's received from Mysterio during their time together.

"He's telling me 'keep grinding, no matter what. Keep trying to make some noise and make people turn their heads.' That's exactly what I'm doing with Lucha House Party," he said. "Right now, we're having fun with the noisemakers and piñatas. And you want action? We'll give you action. I'm always telling Rey, 'What do you think of my match?' And he's like, 'You did good. Just keep grinding and keep doing you.' That meant a lot to me coming from him. He's always telling me, 'One day we'll do something.' It's really nice to hear his words and the inspiration and motivation he's giving me."

While Mysterio and Kalisto may have plans to work a program or match at some point, one man isn't too keen on seeing them square off.

"Then we'll see Randy Orton and he'll say, 'I don't want to see this match. The world doesn't want to see this match,'" said Kalisto, before adding, "And he's laughing."

Mysterio is currently on the SmackDown brand while Kalisto still appears on 205 Live and now Raw.
