Kazuchika Okada is firmly fixated on winning back the IWGP Heavyweight title, but not the double IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental titles.
Okada was very close to walking out of the Tokyo Dome on the second night of Wrestle Kingdom holding both belts, but Tetsuya Naito defeated him in the main event to win the Double Gold Dash. In an interview with NJPW, Okada admitted that he hasn't really paid too much attention to Naito's current reign as champion which included a first title defense against KENTA.
"I haven’t been watching. I didn’t see the last title match... That said, I am disappointed that I don’t have the belt, but the plan is to reset and refocus. There are things that I can do now because I’m not the champion, things that would be difficult or impossible to do if I was the champion. Even so, I have to say I’m not interested in the double championships," Okada said.
For months, Okada has been adamant that he wanted no part of being the Intercontinental champion and only wanted to remain the heavyweight champion. Now that the Double Gold Dash has passed, Okada remains adamant that he wants to become the IWGP Heavyweight Champion once more.
"It’s like I said, like I thought, the IWGP Heavyweight Championship is what I’m interested in. Just that. I honestly don’t care about the double titles, what’ll happen to them, anything like that," Okada said.
