Ken Shamrock talks about initially fighting as "The Rock" and his fun interactions with Dwayne Johnson over the name.
Ken Shamrock entered WWE in 1997 with the tagline "The World's Most Dangerous Man." However, he used to be dubbed "The Rock" early in his fighting career. During a recent interview with DJ Vlad of Vlad TV, Shamrock claimed to have the name as part of his initial WWE contract and reflected on having some fun with that when interacting with Dwayne Johnson after he was given the moniker.
"I was Ken 'The Rock' Shamrock when I came out to fight," he began. "He had no clue, absolutely no clue that I was named 'The Rock.' In fact, when I came to him and I kind of joked about it, that I had that carved out in my contract. I kind of laughed about it. He was like, 'Oh, what? Really?' I was like, 'Brother, don't worry about it, man. It's not a big deal. I don't care.' He made it more famous than me, right?"
The Rock and Ken Shamrock remained close over the years and Rock even inducted Shamrock into the TNA Wrestling Hall of Fame. Learn more about that here.
Ken Shamrock also put over The Rock, hitting him in the head with a chair, as a great example of the wrestling industry not being fake. Read his comments here.
