Kenny Omega is confident that Kota Ibushi will be back in AEW.
At AEW WrestleDream, Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi teamed up with Chris Jericho to face Konosuke Takeshita, Sammy Guevara, and Will Ospreay. The match marked Ibushi's third in AEW; he debuted on the July 19, 2023, episode of AEW Dynamite, and he also competed at AEW All In.
During the AEW WrestleDream post-show media scrum, Kenny Omega was asked about Kota Ibushi potentially returning to AEW. He shared his belief that it's safe to say that Ibushi will be back.
KO: I believe it’s definitely a safe bet to say he’ll be back. Ibushi and I, we’ve really gone through the ringer. We’ve been tossed into the meat grinder. Part of the reason I was motivated to go to DDT in the first place was because of Kota Ibushi. I really felt attracted to his style and outlook on professional wrestling. We’ve done everything we could to leave it all out there. We’ve broken ourselves over and over again, just to build ourselves back up to break each other down again. I really feel like when there is no else around us and our pursuit of our own personal best, we are each other’s shoulders to cry on. It really means a lot, now, after all this time apart, in our current old man broken states, to be there and support each other. Still train together for these matches and still go in front of a packed house and with people like Chris and make magic.
Chris Jericho chimed in by noting that Ibushi had a great time at AEW WrestleDream. He jokingly recalled how Ibushi kept thanking him during the match.
CJ: He had a great time tonight. He kept saying ‘thank you’ during the match. ‘Thank you. Like like? You okay?’ Yeah man, we’re only ten minutes in. [laughs]
Omega continued by noting that he and Ibushi are making up for lost time. He stated that their friendship will never die. Omega made it clear that he is excited to be in a professional environment with him and work with him. He repeated that it's safe to say that Ibushi will be back, and Tony Khan seemingly agreed.
KO: We’re making up for a lot of lost time. The friendship and personal relationship will never die. To be in a professional environment with him again is just great. I love being able to travel and train with him again. It’s wonderful. I think it’s safe to say he’ll be back.
TK: Yes.
As of this writing, it is not known when Kota Ibushi will return to AEW.
Omega and Ibushi previously teamed up together as the Golden Lovers. They held the KO-D Tag Team Championship twice together in DDT. They later reunited in 2018.
