Kevin Kelly says Tony Khan is a big fan of Daniel Garcia, and he comments on Garcia being in a contract year.
Daniel Garcia has been in the spotlight at different points of his time in AEW, dating back to 2021. He has faced stars like Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson, and he has been featured alongside Chris Jericho in the Jericho Appreciation Society. The former ROH Pure Champion had a breakout run in the AEW Continental Classic, and he continues to gain momentum in the first month of 2024. Garcia recently confirmed that he is in a contract year, and he said he wants to earn another deal.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, AEW Collision commentator Kevin Kelly was asked about Daniel Garcia.
"I love the kid. He’s in a contract year. He knows that this is a time for him to really prove he can make a lot of money be a valuable asset in the world of professional wrestling. I know that Tony Khan loves him. I know that Tony Khan is going to do whatever he could to keep him. I don’t think that’s the question. I think it's, ‘How much am I worth? Where do you see me now? Where does AEW see me for the next three to five years?’ That’s interesting. It’s not a matter of coasting, it’s a matter of working hard and running through the tape so when I do cross that finish line of this year, I’ve shown you everything I possibly can and I want to make you convinced that investing in me in the future is the best way to go. I think Daniel Garcia is re-writing the book on that," Kelly said.
Garcia and FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) are set to face House of Black (Malakai Black, Buddy Matthews, and Brody King) on the January 27 episode of AEW Collision. More information is available here.
