Kevin Nash On Booking WCW: I Said, 'I'll Help.' I Should've Said, 'Let's Go To A Strip Club.'

Eric Bischoff and Kevin Nash discuss the decision to have Kevin Nash help book WCW programming in 1998.

When discussing factors that ultimately led to the demise of WCW, one that gets brought up quite often is Kevin Nash becoming the booker of World Championship Wrestling. During this time, Nash would end up defeating Bill Goldberg for the WCW World Championship and drop the title to Hulk Hogan on the January 4 episode of WCW Nitro with the infamous "Finger Poke of Doom" angle.

It just so happens that that very angle was the topic of discussion for the second episode of the VICE docuseries, "Who Killed WCW?"

During the episode, Eric Bischoff talks about his decision to give Kevin Nash the book, noting that he could have given it to others, but he trusted Kevin's instincts.

"I found myself fighting with departments of Turner Broadcasting that I'd never heard of before. It took a lot out of me," Eric recalled. "One afternoon, I was in my office and I was just out of gas. Kevin came into my office and Kevin offered. He said, 'Hey, boss, why don't you just let me take over the book? Temporary. Get your feet back underneath you. Let me take this pressure off of you.'

"There were other people I could have handed it off to, but I had confidence in Kevin's instincts."

Kevin recalls his offer to be exactly that. He was watching his friend struggle and he was trying to alleviate some of the pressure. However, Kevin wishes he made a different offer in hindsight.

"He just was having such a hard time banging heads with everybody on everything," said Kevin. "So that's how it started. I said, 'I'll help.' I should have said, 'Let's go to a strip club.'"

In that same episode, Bret Hart was once again given the chance to bash his time in WCW and working with Bill Goldberg and, obviously, he took advantage of that opportunity. Check out his comments here.
