"I wrote, first draft, was for Sgt. Slaughter. I see him at Cons all the time. Also, he had a condo in our hometown when we were kids. We all knew where Sgt. Slaughter lived. I saw him at a Con and I say, 'Hey man, I wrote a big part of you where you give the character the advice he needs to go forward. It's kind of like the Stan Lee part in Mallrats.' He was so sweet. He was like, 'I'm not an actor. I'm a wrestler. If you need me to do speeches, I don't think I'm your guy,'" Smith said in an interview with PopCulture.

Paul Walter Hauser put Smith in touch with Sam Richardson, who ended up reading for and getting the as Major Murder.

The film also stars Method Man, Justin Long, and Ken Jeong.
