Kota Ibushi is speaking out on his reunion with Kenny Omega
Speaking to Tokyo Sports (translations via Chris Charlton), when asked why he helped Kenny Omega that night in Sapporo, he gave a simple answer: "Because he's my friend."
After making it clear he was not part of any faction, including the Bullet Club, he explained why he and Omega have reformed the pairing.
"It ended once. So this isn't picking up where we left off," Ibushi said. "It's a completely new start. I'm excited to see what we can do as a team, now [that] both of us [are] heavyweight. I can't imagine a better tag team than us. At the same time, we spent this time apart, and did completely different things in those three years. How we'll do together after that time, how well we'll get, that's another part of it."
But at the same time, while they will be focused on how they are as a team, they also want to continue having separate careers, too. He feels that there are stark differences between his and Omega's careers.
"I'm the only one who hasn't made a mark or gotten results in New Japan" he said. "I'm not looking to Kenny in help for that regard. That's on me to rectify. Of course, I want to team with him. But I'm still a singles wrestler. As a tag, I'm excited to see what happens, and no doubt, cool things will happen. 2018 just got really interesting."
Ibushi and Omega reunited after Cody turned on Kenny Omega, laying him out and seemingly putting him out of the Bullet Club. The current storyline on Being the Elite seems to be everything is up in the air at the moment about where everyone's loyalty lies.
