Kurt Angle: Survivor Series Elimination Matches Are Unappealing, WarGames Gives Fans What They Love

Kurt Angle talks WWE Survivor Series: WarGames.

Whether defending the WWE Championship against Undertaker in 2000 or challenging John Cena for that same prize in 2005, Kurt Angle was always a major part of the WWE Survivor Series every November for as long as he was a full-time WWE Superstar. Occasionally, WWE veers away from traditional Survivor Series Elimination bouts in favor of a different gimmick match that places elevated importance on the concept of fighting to survive in the squared circle.

Tony Khan Comments On The Creation Of The WWE ID Program

In 2022, WWE is bringing its variant of WarGames, a WCW staple, to the main roster for the first time. On his podcast, Kurt Angle spoke candidly about believing WarGames is far more appealing than traditional elimination bouts.

"I mean, you know, Survivor Series was always the four-on-four. I do get it, you do want to change it up. I mean, I think that Survivor Series is probably the most unimportant top four pay-per-view of the year and I think because the four-on-four, it's not that appealing. You know, there's no World Championship going on in that match. It was just four vs. four, and the WarGames match was from WCW. I thought that was a great idea. It's a great gimmick match. People love it, you want to do what people love."

Angle never participated in WarGames, but was a veteran of many Lethal LockDowns during his time in TNA Wrestling. These days, Angle is retired but when Tony Khan inquired about signing Kurt to AEW, Kurt revealed his services come with a hefty price tag. Learn more here.
