KUSHIDA is one of the most decorated junior heavyweight in New Japan Pro-Wrestling history, and he's a former NXT Cruiserweight Champion.
However, he's never won a world title in a major organization. That can change at IMPACT Rebellion when he faces Steve Maclin for the vacant IMPACT World Championship.
“This is the opportunity I need,” KUSHIDA (through a translator) told Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. “I thank the gods of pro wrestling for giving it to me. I’ve never gotten the top championship. That means you are the face of the company. I want to be the driving force behind the company. I want to bring Impact all over the world.”
KUSHIDA's opportunity came from Josh Alexander having to relinquish the title due to an injury. Alexander was originally scheduled to defend the title against Maclin.
“Wrestling for the world title is a dream,” said KUSHIDA. “I can’t wait to make it come true.”
