The Jarrett family has yet to comment on Jerry's passing.

Jarrett promoted Continental Wrestling Association beginning in 1977. CWA featured talent such as Jerry Lawler, Terry Funk, Hulk Hogan, Stan Hansen, Ric Flair, Rick Rude, Randy Savage, and more. Jarrett entered into a merger with World Class Championship Wrestling to create United States Wrestling Association in 1989.

The company had a brief talent exchange with WWF in the 90s.

Jarrett would eventually sell his stake to Jerry Lawler and Larry Burton. After opening TNA in mid-2002, Jarrett sold 72% controlling interest to Panda Energy in October 2002 to help keep the promotion alive. He departed the company in late-2005 after staying on as part of the management team.

Jarrett began his career as a referee in the 1960s before becoming a wrestler and eventually a promoter.

Jarrett wrote two books about his time in wrestling and was inducted into the NWA Hall of Fame in 2009.
