Lenny Leonard came to GCW for The WRLD on GCW, adding another promotion to his resume list.
Leonard has called the action for promotions like EVOLVE, ROH, TERMINUS, and more. As a veteran in the commentary game, not much rattles Leonard, and while he knew he would be part of the GCW commentary team, he didn't realize he would be part of the kickoff show.
"I didn't know I was doing the pre-show until right beforehand," he said on Busted Open Radio. "I was like, 'Alright, I've never done a stand up panel before.' I had only briefly met Pollo Del Mar before and it was a quick hello. I had never met Nasty Leroy. He was funny because he was in the second segment and he was kind of going long. I asked him, 'what's the match you're most excited to see?' He starts naming three (matches). He got through two and I'm looking at Brett (Lauderdale) and his eyes are getting really big like, 'we gotta go.' Before he could say it, I was like, 'You were telling me about number three before the show, it's the kickoff scramble, which is next, let's go to Emil' and kind of took it away from him like, 'we gotta go.' Seeing Brett's eyes get really big when he was watching the clock, that one struck me."
Being on traditional pay-per-view, GCW had to work within the time constraints and many fans wondered if time got cut from the main event between The Briscoes against Nick Gage & Matt Tremont. Jay Briscoe tweeted "Fuck PPV time restraints" after the event.
When asked if time was also cut from Jon Moxley vs. Homicide, Leonard said, "I think they were probably right about where they were supposed to be. I didn't have it timed out while I was watching it, but I don't think they got rushed too much. I think it was the last match more than anything. We even were cutting out...all those video packages they played, they originally had me pitching to all of those packages where I had verge I had written out that I would throw to set the stage. We had to cut that out. There was going to be a minute segment with us talking about the (Indie) Hall of Fame and some video behind it. We had to cut that out. We tried to shave as much as we could where we could when we were on the fly. I think it was the tag match that felt the brunt, unfortunately."
PCO stated that a big high spot was cut from the opening ladder match on the show. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
Leonard noted that he would like to return to GCW, he's just working with Brett Lauderdale around his schedule for his shoot job.
