Lio Rush: I'm Like A Crazy Hollywood Wrestling Kid That Has Grown Up, Fans Have Seen The Worst Of Me

Lio Rush discusses his growth.

Rush has become a somewhat controversial figure throughout his wrestling career, as he reportedly got heat backstage during his time in WWE. Rush also took to social media to call for an apology from Tony Khan when the AEW CEO Tony Khan responded to Big Swole's claim that AEW's lack of diversity was a reason for her departure. Rush's career has had a few ups and downs since then, but he bounced back in a big way at IMPACT Slammiversary, as he defeated Chris Sabin to win the IMPACT X-Division Championship.

Speaking with Wrestlesphere ahead of the pay-per-view, Rush was asked to describe what being his true self means to him, as he had made it clear that he felt like he could be the real Lio Rush in IMPACT. Riush described how being yourself means showing everything the worst parts of you alongside the best, and he felt like "crazy wrestling Hollywood kid" that has grown up in front of everyone, as people have seen the best and the worst of him.

“I think to show the worst parts of me, too. I think that’s just being yourself. I think just showing people that you’re human. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done. At the end of the day, we’re people. We’re human beings, and if you’re not afraid to show the worst parts of you and the best parts of you, how are you truly being yourself 100%? That’s the season that I’m in. I feel like I’ve done that over the years. Yes, people have seen everything that I’ve done in the wrestling business on a very positive level, but they’ve also seen the worst parts of me. I’m like some crazy wrestling Hollywood kid that has grown up, and everybody’s seen me go through all of this stuff, both negatively and positively. But at least they’ve seen it, and they’ve seen the growth, and they’ve seen the persistence and me believing in myself, and the persistence in me believing and vocalizing the things that mean the most to me because there are people that look up to me. I would like to lead those people and to inspire them and to motivate them to just be themselves. Just be yourself," Rush said.

In another interview, Rush stated that he feels like he's creeping into his prime. Click here to see what he had to say.
