Mark Henry Discusses His Role As The Coach In 'The Weight,' CJ Cummings Reaching Out About Wrestling

Mark Henry is one of the most decorated weightlifters in history, earning the moniker "The World's Strongest Man" for his WDFPF records in the squat and deadlift.

Henry is still involved in weightlifting as will be playing the coach in the feature film "The Weight," which is about "an aging weightlifter struggles through injury, loss and unrequited love to strive for one last chance at Olympic glory."

Speaking on Come Correct with Zack Tealander, who stars in the film, Henry discussed his role and mentoring CJ Cummings.

"He reached out to me about pro wrestling before. I don't want CJ Cummings to leave lifting until he is, hands down, the best lifter in the world. I left, and I don't want him to make the same mistake that I made. I went and made a living in pro wrestling because that was the best option, and I was bitter. I wanted to leave because of Tamás Aján and the sport not being clean. CJ is in a better position than I was," he said.

CJ is an American Champion and four time Junior World Champion in weightlifting.

Henry continued, discussing his role and his hopes for the overall impact of the film by saying, "I wouldn't accept this role if I wasn't going to impart what I know to be the truth. Rocky 1, Rocky 3. I know that's a high bar. Rocky won an Oscar, but that's because it was a story about boxing that had never been told. Telling this story, and where it's going to go, and what I've already read, people are going to find out about themselves. All the lifters around the world that are already lifting, all the competitive athletes in the NBA, NFL, and MLB. Jeff Massey was training the Bulls when they were winning championships. They had great players, but Jeff told me how hard they trained. They were doing Olympic weight lifting, way ahead of the curve. People are going to get introduced to our sport and the people that are in professional sports are going to find people like us and they're going to say, 'I want to be better in my sport, will Olympic weightlighting make me better in my sport?' Yes. The world of sports is going to get better because of this movie."
