Matt Cardona Reflects On Battle With Cancer In High School

Matt Cardona looks back on his battle with cancer in high school.

When Cardona was in high school, he was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. During his battle with the disease, it spread from his foot to his lungs, and Cardona was forced to miss a year of school.

While speaking to RJ City on Hey! (EW), Cardona discussed the topic with RJ, noting he knew he had to beat it to become a pro wrestler.

"That was a tough time, but... This is going to sound cliche, but I knew that I had to beat that to become a pro wrestler."

RJ then asked Cardona why he doesn't bring up the fact he had cancer more.

"I never wanted to be so, I just didn't want to be like the cancer guy. I didn't want to do that. I'm not ashamed of it by any means. Right. But I didn't want to be like, oh, that's the cancer guy."

Cardona is currently scheduled to face off with Chris Jericho for the Ring Of Honor World Title at ROH Final Battle.
