Matt Jackson briefly comments on Tony Khan's original name for a wrestling promotion, World's Best Wrestling (WBW).
The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) were the latest guests on Hey! (EW) with RJ City. During the episode, RJ remarked that if The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega are The Elite, then why would they create a promotion called All Elite Wrestling and create a situation where by virtue of being employed, anyone working there is "Elite." RJ pondered why the Young Bucks would "no sell" themselves in such a manner.
In return, Matt Jackson quipped, "Well, it was close to being called 'World's Best Wrestling.' So, AEW is definitely better than that, right?"
In the past, Tony Khan has openly spoken about wanting to call his promotion "World's Best Wrestling," revealing that he wanted CM Punk to be one of the first top stars in his promotion. Read his comments about that here.
CM Punk did, of course, eventually join AEW in 2021. His contract was terminated on September 2, 2023, following a backstage altercation at AEW All In in London, England. Tony Khan has since said he "feared for his life" during the incident. Read more here.
