Mike Knox comments on WWE's rumored interest in him in 2016.
Several years ago, a rumor about Knox potentially returning to WWE gained some traction on the internet, but nothing came of it. Knox previously signed with WWE in 2005 and worked for the company until he was released in 2010. He went on to compete for TNA/IMPACT Wrestling, among other promotions, for the next few years.
In an interview with Darren Paltrowitz, Knox was asked about the rumor and emphasized that he wasn't in good shape back then, so it wasn't the right time.
“Oh god, no. I was a realist, you know what I mean? I always have been, and back then, especially then, I was 330 pounds, 320, I hadn’t worked and my knees were freaking really bothering me. My back, my neck was kinda screwed up, I was starting to forget shit because I had a lot of concussions and stuff. I was like, that’s it. You know what I mean? I still wanna live an awesome life. I don’t want to have a head full of mush and two broke legs, you know what I mean? I wanna be able to run the streets and howl at the moon [laughs]. I wanna be able to have a good time," Knox said.
Knox noted that he had fallen out of love with wrestling, and he was frustrated with it at the time. But after he tore his bicep, he decided to return to the ring once he saw the success of Tom Brady, Edge, and Sting, among others who have found success in their forties and beyond.
"I’m not under any impression that I’m a spring chicken. I’m 44, I’ve been wrestling since I was 18, got some miles, you know what I mean? Now I feel completely different. When I did start coming back, I tore my bicep, being a dipshit, being fun, awesome, being really stupid. I tore my bicep and I was out for eight months or something like that, nine months. I got really lucky. I had the doctor from the Tampa Bay Lightning, get in there and do it. I am also so stupid. I didn’t get it fixed until, I knew I hurt something but I was like ah shit, it ain’t torn. If it was torn, it would hurt more. Let’s go golfing. Oh shit, bro. So I ended up tearing the shit out of it. I was going on vacation, having a good time, and by the time I realized that it really was torn, it had retracted all the way up into my shoulder. The guy that did the surgery, he worked miracles. So I started getting back into it, and I started doing my rehab and I was training, and I started dropping some weight. I started doing some exercises that I hadn’t done in a long time with our PT guys. Not to mention, Tampa signed Tom Brady, you know. He came down here, 44 years old or whatever, he won the thing and he’s all old and shit and doing good. I was like, well he’s doing alright. Then old Edge came back and old Bully’s still doing it. There’s a bunch, like Sting, he’s kinda old too, he’s doing it. Everybody’s still out there doing it, and they’re kinda old. Shit, I’m old, but I can still move. You get me in there, brother, I’m still pretty goddamned scary," he said.
Knox will be in action at NWA 74; he will face Bully Ray in a Tables Match. More information is available here.
