MJF Suspects The Verbiage Used In His Tough Enough Application Rubbed Certain People The Wrong Way

MJF believes that everything happens for a reason.

In 2015, a then 19-year old MJF submitted an application to be a contestant on the sixth season of WWE Tough Enough. Unfortunately for him, after one casting call, his hopes were dashed as he failed to qualify.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani, the AEW star says he was certain that no one was cutting a better promo than him, sharing his belief that perhaps his choice of words rubbed people within WWE the wrong way. That said, MJF is happy with the way everything worked out as he's not sure WWE would have known what to do with him. Now, they'll be backing up a truck filled with money to lure him away from AEW when his deal expired on January 1, 2024.

“I was nineteen years old at the time. I was about a year in the business, maybe not even a year yet. Probably not even a year yet. I remember cutting this promo, sending it in, and thinking, ‘Nobody is cutting a better promo than me.’ It ended up having the most views, at the time, of any of the applicants and I still didn’t get in. To this day, I just have a feeling that it might have rubbed certain people the wrong way with some of the verbiage I used in the promo. But, I had the most views. I got through one casting call and that was it, I didn’t hear from them again. If I’m being honest, everything happens for a reason. I think if I went there at that point in time I would have been doing f*cking rolls. They wouldn’t have understood what they had. Now, not only do they understand but they’re gonna be unloading an absurd amount of money by 2024 just to hopefully get a sniff of getting MJF in their company," he said.

Season 6 of Tough Enough was won by Sara Lee and Josh Bredl but also produced current WWE Superstars Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville.

Elsewhere during the interview, MJF said that he won't sign any contracts before his contract with AEW expires on January 1, 2024. Click here to learn more.
