MJF has made it clear that he's going where the money is when his AEW contract expires in January 2024.
MJF returned to AEW after a three-month hiatus at AEW All Out and it was revealed that he got a bump in pay to get him back in television. MJF has said publicly many times that he'll go to the highest bidder when he becomes a free agent.
Speaking on KFC Radio, MJF was asked if he would potentially start his own company once he becomes a free agent.
"I do genuinely think that I'm a prodigy, and I say that humbly, and then there is probably no one in the wrestling world that knows more and has a better wrestling IQ than me. Of course, I thought about it, if there was financial backing, if someone said, 'Hey MJF, you'll be the face of my company and you make the decisions, you make the calls, you decide who gets to go in the ring and doesn't go in the ring.' The most important thing to me is money, and if I can make an absurd amount of money without having to be stressed out of my effing mind...the only person you should be worried about is yourself," he said.
Later in the interview, the topic circled back to MJF potentially running his own company, and he gave a further explanation as to why he wouldn't want to do that, even if it meant racking in a little more cash.
"I never want to have Tony Khan's job. I never want to have Triple H's job. The amount of bullshit you have to go through. The only thing I want to worry about is me. If that means I get a difference in pay, but I'm getting paid just to be me and show up to work, once a week, come on," he said.
MJF did reiterate that it doesn't matter who paid him the most, whether it be AEW, WWE, IMPACT Wrestling, or a new promotion with great financial backing, he was going to go where the money is in January 2024.
MJF currently holds the Casino Ladder match chip, which gives him an AEW World Title bout at any sanctioned AEW event.
