On September 17, Will Ospreay took on Naomichi Marufuji at Marufuji's 25th anniversary event.
While speaking at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door press conference, Ospreay mentioned that he wanted to face Marufuji. He got his wish as the bout was made official on July 15.
Speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Marufuji reflected on the match.
“Ospreay was the only one for this match. I think he is the perfection of modern wrestling. He is a great fighter. I think the word ‘genius’ is appropriate for him," he said.
Ospreay mentioned after the bout that he would like to team with Marufuji, possibly in a match against Eddie Kingston & Jun Akiyama.
He has made trips to America, wrestling for IMPACT Wrestling, House of Glory, West Coast Pro, and more.
“If there is an offer, I would like to go. I think it is a way to increase the overall fanbase, and I want to do something that will lead to the future by giving young people of today a lot of experience outside Japan," he said.
It is unknown when Marufuji will return to America.
