El Desperado could not hold on.
Robbie Eagles won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at NJPW Wrestle Grand Slam, forcing El Desperado to tap out with the Ron Miller Special following a 450 splash to the legs. Eagles consistently worked the legs of Desperado throughout the match to set up the submission victory.
Eagles become the first Australian wrestler to hold the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.
NPJP Wrestle Grand Slam opened with Hiromu Takahashi declaring his intentions to challenge the winner of Eagles vs. Desperado for the title at some point down the line. Takahashi was recently cleared from his torn pectoral, which had sidelined him since February.
Takahashi had to relinquish the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title as a result of his injury.

This marks the first reign with the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship for Eagles. Desperado won the vacant title at NJPW Castle Attack on February 28, defeating BUSHI and El Phantasmo in a triple threat match. He made two successful title defenses.
