Nick Wayne: Christian Cage Thanked Me For Proving Him Right

Nick Wayne reflects on learning from wrestling a legend such as Christian Cage.

Nick Wayne was under 18 when he first committed to joining AEW. Now, he is one-third of the AEW World Trios Champions and learns from Christian Cage every week as part of The Patriarchy.

Speaking about his relationship with Christian Cage on the Battleground Podcast, Nick Wayne expressed how lucky he is to learn from Christian. Also, he reflected on a time when Christian Cage thanked him for living up to the potential that Christian saw in him.

"He told me, he was like, 'I wouldn't have taken you in if I didn't want to. I saw so much potential in you since you started here. I knew you had to come with me. So, thank you for proving me right.' I couldn't help but just have the biggest smile on my face as he said, 'Thank you for proving me right.' I was like, 'There's no way that Christian is telling me this right now,'" he reflected.

Speaking about how his placement in The Patriarchy came together, Wayne attributes everything to Christian Cage's having a legend's eye for talent.

"Getting to know him throughout the last year, just as humans and wrestlers, we have so many similarities, honestly. In wrestling, things we've run into, in life, in people we know, we just have so many similarities. So maybe he saw that before I knew it before we got to know each other, but overall, he just saw potential in me, and he saw something in me that others didn't see. He's brought something out of me that no one's ever seen, something I didn't know I had. I truly think it was the legend's eye; he sees potential, and he's like, 'I want to get at that. I want to elevate him.'"

Christian Cage will now be entering familiar territory: a multi-team Ladder Match for the AEW World Trios Championships at AEW All In: London. This time, however, he will be mentoring a young Nick Wayne as he competes in his first championship match on a stadium show such as this.
