NJPW To Establish A New Championship After David Finlay Destroyed IWGP US And UK Titles

A new title is coming.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling Chairman Naoki Sugabayashi said during the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 press conference that the promotion will establish a new title in the wake of David Finlay destroying the IWGP US and IWGP UK Titles at NJPW Power Struggle.

"Regarding the IWGP US belt, we will establish a new title. It is true that fans were confused whether it is a US belt or a UK belt, so we created a new one. We will announce the details soon," he said.

Finlay smashed both titles with a hammer after attack champion Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley after Ospreay successfully defended the title against Shota Umino.

Ospreay created the IWGP UK Championship to represent his home, no longer wanting to be recognized as the IWGP US Champion. He still carried two championships.

Ospreay is set to defend the IGWP US Title against Finlay and Moxley in a three-way bout at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18.
