Paul Walter Hauser recalls getting the call for 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps'.
Hauser joined the cast of the upcoming Marvel film back in May 2024, as Deadline first reported the news on his undisclosed role.
Now, with the film just three months away, fans still don't know who Paul Walter Hauser is playing. The actor/wrestler has yet to appear in any trailer or promotional materials for the movie.
While speaking with Cultaholic Wrestling for a new interview, Hauser recalled getting the call from director Matt Shakman.
“I was on a date night with my wife. We were out ordering pasta or something and I got a phone call that said Matt Shakman wants you to play this role in the film. I was pretty flabbergasted you know, it’s something you always dream about getting to play any role in a superhero movie. I think the reason I was more honored and more excited had to do with the fact that I believed that they were targeting this as a special film, they wanted to make good on the Fantastic Four characters. They wanted to prove the creative execution of it. I’m telling you, when I saw that trailer, I was like, ‘Oh, we were right, this thing is special.’ There’s another trailer dropping in a week or two I think, pretty soon. But, you’ll get to see more. I don’t know if or when my character is getting looked at, we’ll see. I just think it looks like one of those Marvel moves that is making a statement like Black Panther or Guardians Of The Galaxy.”
When asked about the rumor that he's playing Mole Man in the movie, Hauser brought up the fact that he's a versatile performer.
“If I was a fan from the outside looking in, I’d definitely be looking at a few different villains as a possibility. I don’t know, it’s not like I only play villains, I also play sidekicks. I also do comedy. Sometimes I have very little dialogue if you saw me as Embarrassment in Inside Out 2. You don’t know what you’re going to get from me, hopefully it’s something memorable.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Hauser revealed that Jon Hamm and Sebastian Stan are closeted wrestling fans. Check out his full comments on the matter by clicking here.
'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' is set to release in theaters on July 25, 2025.
