Quincy Elliot says it all worked out.
Quincy Elliot previously signed with WWE in 2021. During their time with the company, they hosted NXT Halloween Havoc 2022 with Shotzi. WWE later released Elliot in September 2023.
Speaking with Bryan Asbury on Developmentally Speaking, Quincy Elliot discussed their time in NXT, and they looked back on hosting NXT Halloween Havoc 2022. They revealed that they had suffered an injury at the time, and they initially hid it from the company.
“Oh man, that was one of the most stressful times in my life because I was supposed to wrestle on Halloween Havoc or do something physical, but at the time, I got injured. I got injured, and I had a match in October against Xyon Quinn, but I got injured. I used to ride a moped, I got injured in an accident. I found out I was hosting pretty much the night before the match or whatever, and I was injured, and I hid it from the company. In October, I hid it from the company, which wasn’t the most mature thing to do, I will admit. But I was like, I worked hard for this opportunity, I’m not just gonna throw it away. So I got injured, and that was a bummer, but the exciting part about that is I got to pretty much express myself on Halloween Havoc, do different costumes and things, and it was a fun time, but it was also stressful because I’m like, I just want to be able to wrestle and show the world what I can do," Elliot said.
Elliot continued by expressing their frustration with the situation. They recalled how WWE found out about the injury when Xyon Quinn slammed them during rehearsals. Elliot also stated that it all worked out, and they were grateful.
"It was very frustrating. I remember at the time during rehearsals, Xyon slammed me, and I reacted, like, ‘Ah!’ They figured out I was hurt, and I was like, ‘Damn.’ But it ended up working out, everything still ended up working out, but I knew that if I was able to wrestle on Halloween Havoc or do something physical, maybe show myself off a little more, it would have been much more fulfilling, but I’m grateful for the opportunity either way," Elliot said.
When asked whether WWE put more stock in them after NXT Halloween Havoc, Elliot said the company did not. They recalled undergoing surgery on their foot and being sidelined for several weeks. They went on to say that they tried to get back the momentum that they had.
"Honestly, no. After Halloween Havoc, I had to go have surgery on my foot, so it was gonna be a couple weeks before I could get back and do anything. So I was mentally frustrated with the world. At the time, six weeks, on paper, that doesn’t seem like the longest time ever, but NXT is on the go. It’s running every week. Six weeks is a long time to not be on television. So I ended up off TV for a while for that, and then a bunch of drama went down, and I was just all over the place, just circling, trying to get that momentum that I had back," Elliot said.
Elliot then agreed when Asbury noted that they were not able to recover, in terms of their position, after the surgery.
During the interview, Elliot apologized for any negativity that they caused WWE. Click here to see what they had to say.
