There was some turmoil behind the scenes at WWE Royal Rumble, but Randy Orton has a good sense of humor about it all.
The final three entrants in the Royal Rumble were Shane McMahon, Randy Orton, and Brock Lesnar.
McMahon had a strong showing in the Rumble, making it to the final three before he was eliminated by Brock Lesnar. There were reportedly more plans for McMahon after the Rumble, but he was "quietly released" following behind the scenes problems.
Fightful Select published the following report after the Royal Rumble:
We're told of one particularly humorous situation, as Shane McMahon was actually supposed to be number 29, and Orton number 28, which got reversed. Those near the situation say and heard Shane McMahon reacted hastily, and Orton pretty well informed him that he would in fact NOT be entering to Shane McMahon's theme, so Shane probably needed to go out when his number was called.
In a BT Sport digital "Know Your Bro" with Riddle & Randy Orton, the subject of Royal Rumble numbers came up as the two men tried to recall which number their bro drew.
Riddle comments, "I know when you were supposed to enter and then somebody...."
Orton says, "Right, Shane McMahon got axed after that because of the whole....sorry Shane, love you, man."
Orton couldn't quite recall what number he entered, but commented that he was supposed to be 30.
Lesnar would enter at number 30 and go on to win the whole thing. He eliminated both Orton and McMahon.
