Dean Ambrose Will Leave WWE When Contract Expires At The End Of April, WWE Comments

Dean Ambrose is on his way out of WWE.

According to Wade Keller of the PWTorch, Ambrose gave his notice to Vince McMahon and WWE management over the weekend and is set to leave the company when his contract expires at the end of April. Ambrose was reportedly offered a new contract, which included a raise, weeks ago. He reportedly told WWE management that he is not interested in negotiating and isn't holding out for more money.

Keller reports that Ambrose has "been long frustrated with the creative direction of his character and reached a breaking point recently."

Fans saw a different demeanor from Ambrose on the most recent episode of Raw as he had dropped the comedy routine in favor of a more serious approach when confronting Seth Rollins and Triple H in the opening segment. Ambrose would go on to lose a one-on-one match against Rollins. When the show came back from commercial break, Ambrose was about to address the WWE Universe and "pour his heart out" but was interrupted by Nia Jax and Tamina. Jax hit Ambrose with a cheap shot from behind, sending him out of the ring.

WWE has issued a statement to the media saying "Dean Ambrose (Jonathan Good) will not be renewing his contract with WWE when it expires in April. We are grateful and appreciative of all that Dean has given to WWE and our fans. We wish him well and hope that one day Dean will return to WWE.”

Fightful learned that WWE made several additional offers to Ambrose, all of which were rejected. We were also told that Ambrose's wife Renee Young has time left on her contract and that she and Ambrose are known for their ability to be able to separate their personal and professional lives. It's also no secret that Renee Young has other options outside of WWE, something she's said to downplay herself backstage. Both Young and Ambrose are well liked backstage, but Ambrose has been vocal in his criticism of his use since his heel turn.

Despite being Intercontinental Champion, Ambrose had been portrayed as more of a "hokey" character in recent months, doing non-serious bits that included vaccination shots and Bane cosplay.
