Could Jim Ross be moving on?
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the WWE contract of Jim Ross is set to expire on March 31, 2019. Ross has been brought back for sporadic WWE appearances this year, most notably at Raw 25 in January. He also called the Andre The Giant Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34 and was part of the Greatest Royal Rumble kick-off panel.
Ross also has a contract with AXS TV that allows him to call weekly television for NJPW. However, WWE has blocked him from calling matches for Wrestle Kingdom 13 in January. Ross was offered the chance to call Quintet, Kazushi Sakuraba’s submission tournament on UFC Fight Pass, but WWE blocked him from doing so.
His current deal with WWE won't allow him to sign a new deal with AXS, which expires at the end of this year.
There was a report that Ross, along with Chris Jericho, would be starting their own wrestling company within the next year. According to the report, AXS TV were involved in the negotiations. However, AXS TV denied any involvement and Ross and Jericho have both distanced themselves from the report.
