AEW Dynamite (9/6/23) Results: Grand Slam Tournament Starts, Two Title Bouts, Le Sex Gods, MJF, More

AEW hosted its latest episode of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, live from the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Tonight's episode will feature the start of the Grand Slam Tournament to determine who will challenge Maxwell Jacob Friedman for the AEW World Championship at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in Queens, New York, on September 20. Additionally, Kris Statlander and Jon Moxley will defend their respective championships.

- Orange Cassidy kicks off the show and says that they told him to stay home but even if he lost the championship, he expects to be on every week.

* AEW International Championship: Jon Moxley (c) def. AR Fox.

- After the match, Darby Allin was checking on AR Fox when suddenly on the video wall Christian approached Nick Wayne about potentially being his mentor. Christian also insulted Buddy Wayne and told Nick Wayne to say hi to his mother for him.

* TBS Championship: Kris Statlander (c) def. Emi Sakura

- Roderick Strong talks about his tough upbringing in a vignette. He says he will win the Grand Slam Tournament and slams Adam Cole for knowing that he was alone for so much of his life.

- Don Callis came out and sat on commentary for the next match.

* Le Sex Gods (Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara def. Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis)

- Afterward, Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara got into a shoving match with each other and had to be separated by security because of some miscommunications during the match.

- Ricky Stark says that there's not a man alive who can make him submit, and it is announced that Bryan Danielson will have some words to say on this Saturday's episode of AEW Collision

- Renee Paquette interviews Don Callis and Konosuke Takeshita. Don says that next week, they're going to celebrate their victory over Kenny Omega, and they will also announce the next target for Takeshita.

- MJF comes out to address Indiana. Max says he's excited to wrestle at AEW Grand Slam in New York City. He's interrupted by Samoa Joe. Max says he's excited to wrestle at Grand Slam in New York City. He's interrupted by Samoa Joe.

After some playful fat jokes and dick jokes back and forth, Samoa Joe repeatedly calls Maxwell a kid. Max then tells the story about when he did security for Samoa Joe at the NXT TakeOver Brooklyn II. Max threatens to send Samoa Joe back to NXT like he did William Regal if he keeps messing with him. Max says if he keeps it up, he will kill Samoa Joe because he's MJF and better than you. Joe says he didn't think Max was a kid in 2016. He thought he was a little bitch. Max responds by slapping Samoa Joe. Joe says he refuses to take the bait but that he will go through the entire Grand Slam Tournament and face MJF at the end.

Joe then attacks Max by kicking the middle rope into his groin. Joe holds up the World Championship and then gets punched in the balls by Max. The fight is on, but a Samoa Joe Uranage quickly stops it. Joe goes for the Muscle Buster, but Adam Cole comes running down to save his Ring of Honor Tag Team Championship partner.

Max is helped out by medical and is complaining about numbness in his arm and pain in his neck. Samoa Joe says next time, he's going to tear MJF apart. Adam is walking out with Max when Roderick Strong yells out for Adam, and they have a confrontation as Roderick is walking down to the ring, still in the neck brace, for his tournament match against Trent Beretta.

* Grand Slam World Title Eliminator Quarterfinal: Roderick Strong def. Trent Beretta

- For safety purposes, The Kingdom put Roderick's neck brace back on after the match.

- Backstage Renee Paquette asks Toni Storm about her recent actions and tells her that she will be involved in a Fatal 4-Way match to determine the next person who will challenge Saraya for the Women's World Championship.

- Adam Page comes out to talk about his future. He's interrupted by Swerve Strickland. Swerve Strickland mocks Hangman for how much his career has fallen off. Hangman offers to fight Strickland in a match. Strickland insults Hangman's family. Brian Cage attacks him from behind.

* Grand Slam World Title Eliminator Tournament Quarterfinal: Darby Allin def. Nick Wayne

- Christian Cage shows up halfway through the match and decides that he wants to be on commentary. After the match, he joked that Darby might not make it to Saturday night, where he will now face Roderick Strong.
