WWE Smackdown on FOX Results for 9/4/20 A New Champion Begins His Reign

Good evening Fight Fans, and welcome to our coverage for tonight's edition of WWE Smackdown on FOX!

- We open tonight's show with a recap of Payback this past weekend where Roman Reigns defeated Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt for the Universal Championship.

Taz Returns To Commentary At AEW Dynamite On 34th Street

- We open in the arena with newly crowned champ Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman making their way out to the ring to celebrate Roman's victory. Paul gets on the mic and says that Roman pulled him back in and that Roman corrupted him, not the other way around. Paul talks about how both he and Roman were tossed away by the back office and the fans. Paul then declares that he serves as special counsel to Roman before Roman says that Smackdown is his island.

- We then get graphics for Sasha and Bayley getting their tag title rematch and a fatal four way to determine a new number one contender for the Universal Championship.

- Heavy Machinery come out to the ring for their match against The Miz and John Morrison up next as we go to commercial.

- We come back from commercial to Roman and Paul backstage where he runs into the Usos. Roman then assures them that he has everything in control before leaving.

Heavy Machinery vs The Miz & John Morrison

Otis and Miz start things off before Tucker and John come in and Tucker hip tosses John across the ring. HM then double up on John and send him inside out before HM hit a double scoop slam and clear the ring as we go to commercial.

We come back to Tucker being isolated before he fights his way out of the corner and gets the tag to Otis who gets dropped by a springboard enzuigiri by Morrison. Miz misses a corner clothesline before Otis sends John over the top rope and John rips Tucker off of the apron. John hits Tucker with a neck breaker before Otis catches a kick by Miz and hits a double running splash in the corner into The Caterpillar. Otis then hits a Vader bomb to Miz for the pin and the win.

Winner: Heavy Machinery defeat The Miz & John Morrison via pinfall.

- John Morrison steals Otis' Money in the Bank briefcase after the match.

- We go backstage to Big-E celebrating with Drew Gulak and Lucha House Party before Sheamus attacks E when he goes to welcome Xavier Woods back. Sheamus then puts E through a car windshield as we go to commercial.

- We come back to medical personnel checking on E before Sheamus mocks E in an interview.

- We get this week's Progressive Match Flo recapping Sasha and Bayley losing their tag belts to Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler at Payback. Sasha and Bayley are then interviewed ahead of their tag title rematch up next.

- We come back to a backstage interview with Adam Pearce who announces that Big-E will not be in the fatal four way, but the match will remain a four way. Paul Heyman then shows up and asks to talk to Adam before they walk away.

WWE Women's Tag Team Championship Match

Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax (c) vs Sasha Banks & Bayley

Sasha and Bayley clear the ring before they go for a double baseball slide and get caught. Nia and Shayna then sling them into the barricade repeatedly as we go to commercial.

We come back to Nia and Shayna in control of Bayley, isolating her until she gets the hot tag to Sasha who hits a head scissors into several knees and an enzuigiri. Sasha hits a running meteora in the corner before hitting a diving meteora for two. Sasha and Bayley hit Nia with an assisted powerbomb onto the floor before Sasha gets a near fall off of a sliding knee to Shayna. Sasha and Bayley take turns stomping Shayna before Sasha hits a back stabber for a near fall. Bayley goes up top and hits a diving elbow for a near fall before Sasha accidentally hits a meteora into the post.

Shayna chop blocks the knee of Sasha before Sasha gets a near fall off of an inside cradle. Bayley hits Shayna with a suplex before Sasha locks in the Banks Statement, but Nia breaks it up. Nia then tries to submit Sasha, but Sasha turns it into a sunset flip for a near fall before Nia hits a double diving cross body for the pin and the win.

Winner: Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler retain their WWE Women's Tag Team titles by defeating Sasha Banks and Bayley via pinfall.

- Medical personnel come out after the match and check on Sasha as we go to commercial.

- We come back to Sasha rejecting help out of the ring before Bayley starts to help her out and attacks her partner and best friend out of nowhere. Bayley then puts a chair around the neck of Sasha before jumping off of the top and stomping it before smiling and talking off mic as we go to commercial.

- We come back to a recap of Bayley's attack on Sasha before we cut backstage to see her being loaded into an ambulance and taken to a local medical facility.

- Sami Zayn comes out to the ring with his own Intercontinental Championship before he's interrupted by the current Intercontinental champion Jeff Hardy. Jeff tells Sami that he didn't need to attack him last week and that if he wanted a title shot he just had to ask. Sami says that he doesn't need to ask him for anything before they start arguing and AJ Styles comes out. AJ attacks Jeff out of nowhere before he and Sami stomp Jeff and AJ kicks Sami before Jeff takes out AJ. Sami then drops Jeff with a Helluva kick and escapes with his title.

- We get the announcement and graphic showing us that Jey Uso will take the vacant spot in the fatal four way up next.

- We come back to Heavy Machinery backstage where Otis informs Tucker that he keeps the contract in a lunch box. We then go to John and Miz where John finds out that the briefcase has Otis' lunch in it.

- We go to Roman's locker room where Roman gives Jey a pep talk and encourages him to win a match on his own.

- Corbin calls the upcoming match illegitimate before he's rushed by Matt Riddle and all four men end up brawling at ringside as we go to commercial.

- We come back to tonight's edition of the Firefly Fun House where Bray says that The Fiend has something special planned for next week.

- Backstage Nikki Cross is standing around before Alexa comes up and hugs her before abruptly leaving before Nikki can have her say.

WWE Universal Championship Fatal Four Way Number One Contender Match

Jey superkicks Corbin out of the ring before he's taken out and Corbin and Sheamus double team Riddle. Matt sends Sheamus over the top rope and down Corbin hits a spine buster for a two count that Jey breaks up. Corbin and Sheamus double up on Jey next while making sure to keep Matt out of the ring. Matt comes back in and he and Jey rock Sheamus and Corbin with strikes only to be hit with stereo backbreakers. Sheamus and Corbin then get two before Sheamus attacks Corbin when he's arguing with the referee as we go to commercial.

We come back to Sheamus having the ring to himself before Matt drops Corbin with a rip cord knee and suplex as Sheamus. Matt hits a running senton into a bridging German suplex for to before locking in a triangle. Sheamus powerbombs his way free for two before locking in a cloverleaf that Jey breaks up before Matt can tap. Corbin comes out of nowhere and rolls Jey up for two before Jey takes everyone out with superkicks. Jey clears the ring before he goes for a suicide dive that Corbin stops and Matt and Sheamus send Corbin over the barricade.

Jey dives out onto Sheamus and Matt at ringside before Corbin sends Jey over the monitors. Everyone has Lee then hits a move before Matt hits the Floating Bro to Corbin and Jey comes out of nowhere with a diving splash for the pin and the win.

Winner: Jey Uso defeats Matt Riddle, Baron Corbin and Sheamus via pinfall to earn a shot at the Universal Championship.

- Jey is interviewed after the match before he celebrates as we go off the air.
