Rey Mysterio Believes He Dropped The Ball With Promos During WWE World Title Run

Rey Mysterio reached the top of the mountain at WrestleMania 22 when he won the WWE World Heavyweight Title from Kurt Angle and Randy Orton.

Mysterio's reign lasted 112 days before it was ended by King Booker (Booker T) at WWE The Great American Bash 2006.

Speaking to Kurt Angle on the Kurt Angle Show, Mysterio reflected on what he felt went wrong with his run.

"I never took the time to work on what I needed to work on in order to back that title up and that was working on my promos or character development. In lucha, you were never taught that part of this industry. I think that's where I dropped the ball, tremendously, on not being able to backup having the title and being able to cut promos. I've never really been a promo guy. I do most of my talking inside the ring and that's what fans know me for. If I had done my end of the job, the outcome would have been different," he said.

Mysterio would regain the WWE World Heavyweight Title in 2010, though his second reign lasted just 28 days.

Mysterio remains active in WWE and was drafted to WWE Raw in the 2021 WWE Draft.
