Rey Mysterio says Dominik is not the only one of his children that have shown interest in the physical side of the professional wrestling industry.
During the Autumn of 2020, Rey Mysterio’s entire family was involved in a WWE storyline with Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy. One of the most talked-about wrinkles in this story was the storyline romantic relationship between Buddy Murphy and Aalyah Mysterio, Rey Mysterio’s daughter. Due to a COVID outbreak, the storyline would be quietly dropped and Rey Mysterio’s wife and daughter would disappear from WWE television altogether.
Now, Rey Mysterio says that his daughter has recently asked him about a potential career for her in between the ropes. However, like most parents, Rey Mysterio says he wants her to stay on the path she is currently taking toward a career in the medical field before considering anything in the world of professional wrestling.
"Not too long ago she asked, “Dad, what would you say if I wanted to step in the ring?” I said, “As long as you don’t leave your career behind.” She wants to join the medical field. As long as she does that and tries wrestling as a second option, I don’t mind. She always had the curiosity to take a bump, hit the ropes. I said whenever you want to try it, let me know. I think it’s in the back of her mind. She is very dedicated to her school and education. I’m proud of that right now," Rey Mysterio tells TVInsider.
Currently, Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio are a tag team on the main roster. Rey says in this interview that before his son became a WWE Superstar, he was considering retirement.
"Before my son even stepped in the ring I thought maybe it was time to hang up the mask. Having my son kick off his career gave me a moment of renewal. It was a rebirth. I see my son wrestle now and see myself from the early days. It definitely inspired me to stay in this industry because I have so much passion for this. I thought I was losing my passion in 2019 and that my career was coming to an end. My son was able to boost my energy and help me keep going."
Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio have shown some miscommunication and tension in recent weeks. Despite this, Dominik says he has no interest in wrestling his father and would like to officially take on the mantle that his father held in WCW as ‘Rey Mysterio Jr.’. Learn more here.
