Ric Flair responds to the critics of his last match.
On July 31, 2022 Ric Flair returned to the ring for the first time since 2011 at the Ric Flair's Last Match event, where he teamed up with Andrade El Idolo to defeat Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett. The event aired on FITE and generated a lot of buzz, given Flair's legendary career. Once the match was over, the match was the source of some criticism, given Flair's age and the way the legend faked a heart attack during the bout.
Speaking on his To Be The Man podcast, co-host Conrad Thompson named some of the results in Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards, which were voted on by fans. He told Flair that the Ric Flair's Last Match event came in fourth place for the Worst Wrestling Show Award. The WWE Hall of Famer responded by saying he was happy with the result because they weren't voted as the worst show.
“We took fourth? That’s good. Right? That means we’re not the first worst [laughs], not even second or third. I’ll take that," Flair said.
Thompson informed Flair that his last match came in third place for the Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic, behind only Vince McMahon's appearance on WWE SmackDown amid allegations of sexual misconduct and WWE's continuing relationship with Saudi Arabia. Flair responded by stating that he made $300,000 dollars with his return to the ring.
“I don’t pay any attention to that. You know what I got to say to that? I made $300,000 dollars. Go fuck yourself. That’s right. I made $300,000 disgusting you. Disgust yourself for $300,000, and get in the shape that I got in. How about that, motherfuckers?" he said.
When informed that his last match came in second place for Worst Match of the Year, behind only Vince McMahon's bout against Pat McAfee at WrestleMania 38, Flair admitted that he accepted that. He noted that his return to the ring was derailed because he was dehydrated in the match, and he wishes he had the chance to do it over again.
“I’ll take that because it was the shits. Here’s the deal, it was the shits because I made mistake in hydrating. Let me have it again. I’m serious, I think about it all time. Let me have the match again. The one thing I never thought about was to keep myself hydrated," Flair said.
"The Nature Boy" has described how he passed out twice during the match due to dehydration during the match. More information is available here.
Flair recently stated that he doesn't want to wrestle again, but he does wish he could redo his last match. Check out his comments here.
