Ric Flair's decision to wrestle again didn't come without the input of numerous medical professionals.
The Nature Boy is set to return to the ring for the first time since 2011 on July 31 as part of Starrcast V during WWE SummerSlam weekend in Nashville. The announced bout, which an opponent has still yet to be named for, has garnered plenty of attention as the 73-year-old has also dealt with many health issues over the years, including kidney failure and dialysis treatment in 2017.
"I don't have any aches or pains. I know I've had the health issues, but I asked 40 different doctors, and I decided I'm only gonna listen to one. Not necessarily the one that was gonna give me the right answer, but that I felt the most comfortable with," Flair told the TMZ Sports TV show.
With a clean bill of health heading into the July 31 event, Flair whose last opponent was Sting, wants a chance to make up for his less than stellar farewell eleven years ago.
"I couldn't stand the last couple of matches I had. Couldn't stand the last year I had," he said.
Ric has been training in the gym with Jay Lethal, even releasing videos of their sessions online. He says that the AEW star has been pushing him hard.
"I needed someone to motivate me. And, what motivates me is doing something I like to do, and that's wrestle," he added.
While no one expects Flair to be the performer he was in his prime, he thinks he'll come pretty close.
"I'll never run at 100% again. But, I'll be running at 80, 85%," Flair stated.
During a recent podcast appearance, Flair stated that he's not returning for the money, but rather for the glory. Click here to read more.
