The Rock describes who The Final Boss is.
In the lead up to WrestleMania 40 last year, The Rock debuted a new character, 'The Final Boss'. A brutal and unrelenting character, 'The Final Boss' showed the depths to which the character will go at WWE Elimination Chamber, as he along with a newly turned heel John Cena beat Cody Rhodes down after Rhodes rejected the idea of selling his soul to The Rock.
While speaking during the Elimination Chamber post show press conference, Sam Roberts asked The Rock who The Final Boss is.
"I feel like that might be a little limiting. The Final Boss is a lot of things. He’s a heel, he’s a babyface, but he’s one who doesn’t adhere to the typical pro wrestling tropes that we find. ‘A heel talks like this. A babyface talks like this.’ I feel like I’ve reached this point in my career where I’m able to go out there as the Final Boss and address the crowd, ‘Hey New Orleans, 2026 you have WrestleMania 42 coming to the Superdome.’ Final Boss starts singing, they start singing with me, I tell them, ‘No, you shut your mouth.’ I like vascilating between a heel and a babyface, but I feel it’s important because I have reached this point in my career where I feel really comfortable in my own skin when I go out there or when I film a film and I say what I want to say and more importantly than that, and I don’t mean to sound defiant, I say what I feel. In that moment, that’s a luxury and the blessing being in pro wrestling. We have a live microphone that you can say what you feel. In that moment, if I feel like having fun with the crowd, I do it. If I feel like telling them to shut up or asking their champion, ‘Give me your soul.’ I like that. I’m comfortable being in my own skin. With the Final Boss, there are no constraints and no handcuffs. We can go out and have the reaction we had tonight because people were waiting. We create an experience with Tavis Scott and Cody Rhodes and eventually we put his blood on the belt and beat him with it. I encourage that where we can, that goes for all the other talent in the locker room, women and men. If you can find that place, and it’s a really special place, rare air. Don’t think about, ‘A heel should say this. A babyface should say this.’ That’s old school and it worked for decades, but today, it’s okay, stretch the aperture out. Go out there and say what you feel."
