The Rock n' Roll Express Share How They Got Their Name

The Rock and Roll Express explains how they got their tag team name.

In the early 1980s, Robert Gibson and Ricky Morton began teaming together in Memphis, and would become an iconic tag team in the history of pro wrestling in the years following. However, they're name was something that came to be randomly.

WWE Files Trademark On 'Tiffany Stratton'

While speaking on the latest episode of Hey! (EW) with RJ City, Ricky and Robert explained how Jerry Lawler and Jimmy Hart came up with their tag team name.

Ricky Morton: Let's get all this story. We got a little time here so we can talk. You know, it's Jerry Lawler. This is crazy. We're gonna be on TV. We don't even have a name. But Jimmy Hart was there. So Jimmy Hart tells him, he's going through R&R, Ricky/Robert, you know, Rolls Royce. How about the Rock and Roll Express?

Robert Gibson: Jerry Lawler said, that's the worst name I ever heard in my life.

Ricky: He goes, but we need something and we'll go with it. We'll go with that today. He told me not long ago when I talked to him, he said, I wish I would have patented that name.
