Sami Zayn asked to have merchandise representative of himself as he is the Intercontinental Champion, but the new designs released on WWEShop may be misconstrued by the current Intercontinental Champion as an attempt to mock him.
Sami Zayn has been a focal point of the WWE Intercontinental Championship picture for the majority of 2020. On the December 11 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Zayn was seen backstage protesting his lack of merchandise. Big E would present him with a mock-up of a stick figure drawing that reads “I Am Sami Zayn.” This design infuriated the current Intercontinental Champion but he was unable to rip the t-shirt because of his current bout with re-aggravated carpal tunnel, which he blames Big E for because of a handshake Big E gave him two weeks ago.
This mock-up design has been turned into a reality on WWEShop as well as two designs that simply read “I Am The Intercontinental Champion.” As we all know, Sami Zayn recently struggled with Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles and his belief that they were presenting themselves as fraudulent Intercontinental Champions as he never lost the championship when he was forced to vacate it shortly after WrestleMania.
Naturally, shirts that present such a blatantly fraudulent message may be concerning the current Intercontinental Champion in addition to the consumerism that Sami fears runs rampant in our society. However, Sami is currently emphasizing the positives and feels he has the greatest merchandise design in WWE history.
I like how Big E & Apollo Crews tried to mock me last night and instead it resulted in me getting the greatest merch shirt in @WWE history.
