Sami Zayn On Possibly Main Eventing WrestleMania 39: The Story Has Spoken For Itself

The lineup has been announced for night one of WrestleMania 39, and while fans know that John Cena vs. Austin Theory will open the event, the main event has not been officially announced.

Many fans believe that the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Title bout between The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) against Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn should close the show given the story that has been told.

Speaking to Daniel Cormier of ESPN, Owens and Zayn were asked if they care where they're at on the card.

"We say we're headlining," said Owens. "What closes the show, as far as I know, we don't know. Headlining, I use that term, because it's what means the most to me. People feel that we should be last, we've put forth the most compelling story, we've worked so hard. I say 'we' but I'm lucky to be where I am. I'm reaping the rewards of the work that this guy [Sami] has done and the work the Usos have done over the last year. I made sense where it went, but those guys worked so hard for the last year. A lot of times, I would say, until recently, I feel that work went, not unnoticed but underappreciated. Now everybody can see how good they are, how amazing they are, and I'm just lucky to be a part of it. The fact that everybody feels that we should go on last and we should main event, that's the most important thing to me."

Sami added, "He's short changing his involvement in this. He's a crucial component. He was weaved in and out of the story, quite carefully, we were very delicate about it because we didn't want to do...we've been careful about it for 20 years about how much we give of this because we don't want people to get sick of it. We're very delicate and careful about his involvement and how much of it and for how long. We always wanted to weave him as a constant throughout the story because we thought it was beginning to end, it might be a little much. I understand what he's saying and I think he's minimizing his involvement, but he was crucial to the story. I agree 100%, headlining, main event, whatever, these are sometimes bragging terms. In my opinion, best story wins. It's been the story that has carried the company for a year. It's broken records with seemingly every record that we have; ratings being up, merchandise being up, social media engagement, box office, record setting numbers at Survivor Series, WrestleMania, and Montreal [WWE Elimination Chamber]. I try not to get in the mud when it comes to this stuff. I've been pretty good in my career about not slinging mud and not talking trash. My thing has always been, when you're the best, you don't have to tell people that you're the best. We'll see where it ends up, but the story has spoken for itself at this point."
