Santana Garrett details her phantom WWE main roster call-up and the different ideas suggested for her character on TV.
Santana Garrett is one of many names that has been released by WWE in 2021. Prior to her release, much like Vanessa Borne, she was called up to the main roster despite never being used on main roster television. Garrett, who is no stranger to pro wrestling television with runs in both WOW and TNA Wrestling, had several ideas pitched for her run on television including as a single and as part of a group.
Speaking with Lucha Libre Online, Garrett detailed some of these ideas and how her main roster call-up came to be and ultimately fell through.
"I had a match against Liv Morgan, and one with Bianca, at the beginning of the pandemic, maybe right before it happened. That's when there was interest like, 'Hey, we want this girl.' I actually got moved up at the beginning of summer last year. I was brought to TV about four or five different times with different ideas coming in as this bad girl group with Vanessa Borne and Chelsea Green, coming in as a tag team with Chelsea, coming in as a singles wrestler, doing a whole superhero Wonder Woman character that I've done the past twelve years. It just never happened, unfortunately. We were written into the shows a couple of times and you know, things change all the time and that's wrestling and that's life. Unfortunately, it just didn't happen."
She continued, "I had my match in January with a bunch of talented women and I figured, 'this is my time to shine.' I had my hair done, had someone else make my gear -- I typically make my own gear -- I'm like, 'I'm feeling good.' I did a great job, got great feedback from the producers, and it was 'I'll see you soon.' I was feeling on cloud nine and then weeks went by and I was following up, checking in, and it was 'after Mania.' After Mania, more people got released and I was just hanging out at the house, reorganizing my pantry for the 100th time, and waiting for my time to debut. It just never happened. Then, I got the call, 'we're doing budget cuts.' That was it. "
