Shayna Baszler misses the gritty aura of Wednesday nights
For a long stretch of NXT's recent history, the women's division was dominated by Shayna Baszler. Baszler was NXT Women's Champion for over a year during her second reign as champion and it only came to a halt when she was defeated by Rhea Ripley and after the 2020 Royal Rumble, she moved over to the Monday Night Raw brand permanently.
Speaking with Kayla Braxton on her IGTV series, The Braxton Beat, Shayna admitted that she misses the aura of the Wednesday night show but she equated moving to the main roster to graduating high school, there's a part of it that is bittersweet but it has to be done.
“When you watch Monday, Wednesday, Fridays, there's a certain aura, energy, that each show kind of specifically has on its own. There is this kind of gritty energy that NXT has, you know, and it is something that I miss. But I ruled that division and so it was time to move on. If you want to keep fresh, you gotta do stuff like that, even if it seems like it sucks. It's like graduating high school. It sucked kind of, but you have to do it.”
Currently, Baszler and one-half of the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions alongside Nia Jax. Kayla Braxton asked if she is content with this position or if she is consistently looking towards the goal of a singles championship to which Shayna touted her history as an individual combat sports athlete also kept in focus just how important it is being any champion in WWE.
“Yeah, I mean, I started with amateur wrestling when I was six, you know what I mean? I've done individual combat sports my whole life. So I definitely think that's where my experience is, is better known for but I'm making it work. It's never a complaint. There's five women champions in the entire WWE across all brands and I'm one of them, you know what I mean? So, it's never bad to complain about that.”
Next for Shayna Baszler, she will represent team Raw in the Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match this Sunday at WWE Survivor Series.
