Stephen Amell Wants To Make More 'Heels', Comments On Potential Path To A Third Season

Stephen Amell doesn't want to go out on his back.

"Heels", the STARZ series starring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, drew plenty of praise in the wrestling world. The show focused on the Duffy Wrestling League and featured appearances from real-life wrestlers, including CM Punk and AJ Lee. The series was canceled after two seasons in September 2023. However, when the show moved to Netflix in September 2024, many fans started hoping for a third season.

Speaking on Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway, Stephen Amell commented on "Heels" moving to Netflix and made it clear that he wanted to do a third season.

“We’ve been very, very fortunate because sometimes when these things go away, that’s it. But we premiered in the United States on Netflix on September 15, and we did it without any pomp, any circumstance, any advertising behind us. It’s just simply word of mouth, and we’ve seen that word of mouth carry the show. It hasn’t hit a top ten list or anything like that, but the numbers have been good, and getting steadily better. So I really don’t want to end the series with me quite literally on my back, and I would also love the opportunity to go and film when we weren’t, aren’t going to be dealing with all of the policies and protocols that we had in place because the pandemic, which was just, it just didn’t lend itself to the most cohesive type of [creativity]," Amell said.

Amell went on to reiterate that he wanted to make more "Heels", and he expressed his hope that his new series, "Suits: L.A.", could help him do that. He explained that he has learned a lot throughout his career, so he has a different perspective now.

“I would like to make more ‘Heels’, and I hope that my new show on NBC [Suits L.A.] goes well, which would ironically probably lead to an easier path towards making more ‘Heels’ because I’ve had these experiences now, and I can be a little bit more level-headed and patient and appreciative and have a bit more gratitude and all of those things," Amell said.

Amell was also directly asked whether he thought there was a path to a third season of "Heels". He noted that if there was not a path, Netflix would have left the show to collect dust.

"I think if there wasn’t a path to a third season, that Netflix would have left it and let it collect cobwebs, gather dust," Amell said.

As of this writing, there is no word on whether "Heels" will return for a third season.

"Heels" creator Michael Waldron recently said that his team has had great conversations with WWE. Check out his comments here.
