On September 2, AEW and Tony Khan announced they had terminated the contract of CM Punk with cause.
Punk's termination came following a backstage incident with Jack Perry at AEW All In.
Tony Khan later stated that he feared for his life during the incident at All In and that Punk endangered others.
Speaking to Nick Hausman & Robert Karpeles on Rumor & Innuendo, Stephen P. New, the lawyer for Punk, was asked if there was any non-compete attached to Punk's release.
"I can't really speak to that with respect to Punk. What I can say is that the contracts vary for whether or not non-competes remain in place, the types of terminations and that sort of thing. In terms of him specifically, there is no way I can get into that," he said.
Punk would return to WWE at WWE Survivor Series, less than three months after AEW fired him.
When the subject of AEW's statement regarding Punk's release was mentioned, New commented, "Yeah, it was clear why."
Finally, New was asked about Khan's comments about "fearing for his life" and if Tony had "overstepped."
New replied by saying, "He's welcome to comment on however he felt about whatever."
New previously stated that Ace Steel's wife Lucy was the only person involved in Brawl Out who did not sign a NDA.
Chris Jericho claims he did not sign a NDA and witnessed Brawl Out.
