After the latest episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT, Hikaru Shida proved exactly why she holds the record of being the longest reigning AEW Champion in the history of the company. During this week’s episode Hikaru Shida defeated the former NWA Women's World Champion Serena Deeb. Much to the chagrin of Deeb, Hikaru Shida won. The win itself advances Shida and eliminates Deeb and her chances of becoming the first ever TBS Women's Champion. Hikaru Shida, the former longest reigning AEW Women's Champion, continues to win in AEW, and will now move on in the TBS Championship Tournament.
This bout was a first-round match for the brand new and already coveted Women's TBS Championship Title. Now Shida herself will move on to the semifinals of the tournament. She is set to square off against an opponent she knows all too well. In the next round of the TBS Championship Tournament Hikaru Shida will go one on one with The Beast Nyla Rose. This will not be the first time these two AEW competitors square off as both played integral parts in the beginning stages of the AEW Women's Division and both competed to be the first ever AEW Women's Champion, a feat both lost to Riho.
Nyla Rose will not only be looking for redemption since it's been some time since she's held AEW gold in her hands, she'll also be looking to make a quick effort of Shida in order to maintain pristine optimal competing condition. Any tweak or injury could be an edge exploited by the hungry competitors who are also competing in the TBS Championship Tournament. And as we all know, the later in the tournament the more beat up the athletes become and the more frantic a competitor gets. This will unfortunately be somewhat indicative of the condition Hikaru Shida will be in after her win over Serena Deeb on AEW Dynamite.
Serena Deeb didn't take the loss too well. Since her return she has been exhibiting a malicious energy looming over her in equal parts frustration - a chip on her shoulder - and the nagging need to get to the top in the AEW Women's Division. No doubt, her vicious attack on Shida after their match will be leaving Shida in a worse position than she originally planned for going forward advancing in the TBS Championship Tournament. With her fiftieth win in AEW Hikaru Shida is no stranger to adversity nor pretty much every competitor on the AEW Women's Division roster. As the saying goes, when there's a will, there's a way! I wouldn't be surprised if Hikaru Shida found a way to use Nyla Rose against herself. If Serena Deeb's attack does leave Shida vulnerable heading into the semifinals, Shida's in ring experience suggests she'll find a weakness in Nyla Rose that will ultimately see Nyla Rose defeat herself and advance Shida to the finals in the TBS Championship Tournament. Tune in to AEW Dynamite weekly on TNT Drama as the brackets continue in the pursuit of the new TBS Women's Championship Title!
