Karl Anderson dethroned.
Tama Tonga regained the NEVER Openweight Championship at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 by defeating Karl Anderson. The action got underway quickly with Anderson hitting Tama with the NEVER Openweight Title and dropping him with burner driver on the ramp. Tama avoided a gun stun on the ramp before battling back to win the match and the championship.
The finish saw Tama hit a second rope gun stun followed by another awkward-looking gun stun to capture the title.

This marks the second reign as NEVER Openweight Champion for Tama. Anderson won the title from Tama at NJPW Dominion 2022. Anderson would return to WWE in October while still holding the NEVER Openweight Title. He made two successful defenses of the title.
