Yo, listen.
AEW is known for giving wrestlers more freedom on the microphone with the likes of Max Caster and MJF using that freedom to push boundaries.
Tony Schiavone appeared on the Rob Brown Show and was asked if he's ever nervous when it comes to what wrestlers, specifically Caster and MJF, are going to say.
"With MJF, I am, because he has a tendency to be out of line. Max Caster, no, because that's pretty much been put under wraps. Tony (Khan) has to approve what the rap is now. That's burned him. I don't know what he said one time, I can't remember exactly what he said, but he got suspended because of a rap one time," he said.
On the August 3, 2021 episode of AEW Dark, Caster cut one of his usual pre-match raps, which had questionable lines referencing Simone Biles' mental health, Duke Lacrosse rape accusations, fake PCR tests, and Julia Hart's rhymes with Carolina. While the rap aired during the premiere of AEW Dark, it had been edited out of the video on demand.
After the rap aired, Tony Khan stated the rap should have never aired and that we would be taking over editing duties for Dark and Dark: Elevation. Caster was off television from that episode of AEW Dark until he returned during the September 4 AEW Dark tapings.
In a battle rap at the end of September that featured Lil Uzi Vert, Khan rapped that he would "suspend The Acclaimed for another 30 days," but then clarified that Caster wasn't suspended for 30 days.
Speaking on MJF, Schiavone said, "MJF is like, well he's out of his mind. They were chanting one night about his religion, being Jewish, and he said something about Jesus Christ. When he said it, I remember thinking, 'He is out of his freaking mind.' I went backstage and I went, 'why would you say something like that?' He said, 'Did you hear what they were chanting about me and my religion?' 'Yeah, but stop.' He concerns me."
Schiavone and MJF have had plenty of interactions recently as MJF has joined the commentary booth on AEW Dynamite for certain matches.
