Trick Williams remains number one contender.
Trick Williams defeated Grayson Waller in the main event of NXT New Year's Evil, getting a little help from Kevin Owens.
Carmelo Hayes came out to get a closer view of the action, much to the chagrin of Williams, who asked Melo to stay in the back. As Trick was conversing with Melo, Waller went to the outside, and was met by Kevin Owens.
Back in the ring, Williams hit Waller with the high knee to score the pinfall victory.

The main event was originally supposed to be Trick Williams challenging Ilja Dragunov for the NXT Championship, but it was announced early in the show that Dragunov was not cleared to compete. Waller, the winner of Iron Survivor 2022, entered the picture, and Carmelo Hayes said that Trick would put his number one contendership on the line against Waller.
It is unknown when Trick will get his NXT Championship bout.
