Trick Williams wanted to get the crowd jumping.
'Family Ties' by Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem is one the most popular songs of the decade, amassing over 870 million streams on Spotify and an additional 128 million views on YouTube for the song's official music video. The song was certified 5x platinum by the RIAA back in September.
Given the popularity of 'Family Ties', it makes sense why Trick Williams would want to use it as a base for his theme song.
"At the PC in Orlando, against Ilja Dragunov (match two), I got the theme changed. I got the instrumental and I told them I wanted to base the beat off a Kendrick Lamar song called ‘Family Ties.’ They came back with that instrumental beat and it was magical for me. My first time having a match at a PLE outside of Orlando was at No Mercy in California, and that’s the first time I realized, ‘We’re global with this.’ The people really love the Whoop That Trick movement. Since then, it’s taken off like a rocket." Williams said while speaking to Tom Fallon of The Happy Hour for a new interview.
Elsewhere in the interview, Williams said that he goes to Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, and Booker T for advice. Learn more about those comments here.
