In 2025, television ratings are just one metric wrestling promotions use to measure success. Given how content is consumed nowadays, social media numbers are touted just as much as a television ratings as not everyone watches live.
Speaking to Jimmy Traina on the SI media podcast, Triple H was asked if social media numbers are just as good to him as television ratings.
"It is to me because the world today, people are so busy, if you didn't catch it live and you're a casual fan who doesn't catch every single show and you don't know that promo or match is taking place. Going back to Tiffany Stratton, they don't know the cash in is happening that night. A lot of what we do is, you want to promote to people to get them to come, but you also want to surprise and give them something they didn't expect and holy shit moments where they then go back and talk about it online. All that chatter online, that is water cooler talk that leads other people to go back and go, 'Wow, I went and looked it up and saw that Seth Rollins and CM Punk promo, I'm going to tune in this week.' That is the stuff that, over time, builds your ratings and numbers. I'm not a big believer in 'We're going to do this one thing and it's going to pop a number.' It's great in the moment, but what does that do for you long term? It's just a moment and it just lives within itself. If it's not building to other things and not telling you the story, great storytelling is where we're at. The other stuff is just sort of special effects. The moments are trailers for the product itself and if you get those trailers out there, people come into the product. Then, you have to hook them with characters and storylines," he said.
